Beverley Bell CBE, LLB (Hons), FCILT, FSOE, FIRTE, FIMI
Beverley Bell is a well-known figure in the commercial vehicle industry. She was the Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain and Traffic Commissioner for the North West of England until she retired on 31st May 2017.
Beverley is also the chair of TH!NK LOGISTICS LTD whose aims and objectives are to promote the transport and logistics profession as a career of choice and to attract, retain and develop talent within that profession.
Born in Nigeria and educated at Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School in Crosby Beverley then read law at Liverpool University. She was admitted as a solicitor in 1985 and established her own practice in 1994, specialising in criminal and transport law.
Beverley was appointed Traffic Commissioner for the North West of England in 2000, becoming the first female commissioner. In 2012, she was appointed as Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain. This is a statutory role with responsibility for giving guidance and directions on a range of matters to commissioners, in consultation with stakeholders.
Beverley was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2017 for services to road safety and the freight industry.
Beverley was honoured to serve as President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) UK in 2015 – 2016 and she remains a Vice President. She is also a Fellow of the Institute.
Beverley is also a Fellow of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) and she was honoured to be appointed the Patron of the Society of Operations Engineers in 2016.
She is a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry, a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Carmen. She also used to sit on the Advisory Board to the Cranfield University Faculty of Logistics & Transport.
Beverley has been a Governor a Merchant Taylors’ School in Crosby for a number of years and she became their Chair in 2016.
